Parish History

Efficient and tireless human efforts towards progress and development are always well applauded in the making of history. A perfect example to this context is the commendable role of a bunch of visionaries of Kuwait Mar Thoma Parish in establishing a third Sister Parish in Kuwait that has set a milestone in the history of both Mar Thoma Parishes and Mar Thoma Churches in Kuwait. All glory and honor to the Almighty God for His bountiful blessings and guidance in perfecting the plan envisioned. The very thought of a new independent parish was well supported by a good number of Marthomites with overwhelming joy. Consequently, several discussions and meetings were held to elaborate the various aspects and needs of the same.

A group of 33 members prayerfully gathered periodically at different places to chart out the action plan. After ensuring the financial viability and in accordance with the procedural instructions by the Mumbai Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa, a meeting was chaired by His Grace on March 22nd 2007 at the I C S K Auditorium, Salmiya. The amazing grace of God made it possible through the NECK authorities in availing a time slotted worship hall at NECK (Hall Of Peace) to conduct the weekly parish worship along with the Friday morning services in Greek Catholic Church at Salwa to our absolute joy. This was a real breakthrough towards achieving the goal. With the permission of Synod and subsequent order (Kalpana) St Thomas Mar Thoma Parish, Kuwait came in to existence on Tuesday 10th April 2007. Thus the dream of a New Parish became a reality out of the desire of many members of Mar Thoma Community in Kuwait, to improve fellowship among the members and for better service to the people in need.

The inaugural Holy Communion was celebrated by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mar Barnabas the Diocesan Episcopa on 10th April 2007 at 7.30 P M at the Hall of Peace in NECK. Rev. P. M. Varghese and Rev. Joseph K George Vicar and Asst. Vicar of Kuwait parish were present on this occasion. Immediately after the Holy Communion service, an inaugural meeting was held in the Hall of Peace to declare the formation of the new Parish By the Diocesan Episcopa Rt. Rev Joseph Mar Barnabas in the presence of Rev. Emmanuel B. Ghareeb, President of NECK Common Council and the Mar Thoma community in Kuwait. In this meeting, in order to manage the Parish activities, an Ad-Hoc committee and a team of office bearers were formed for a period until the Parish was ready to hold a general body and elect Parish committee and Office Bearers. We are thankful to the Almighty for His grace in fulfilling the long cherished dream of the members for a new Parish.

The enthusiasm of the members is an inspiration for them in the smooth functioning of all the organizations from the very inception of the Parish. Edavaka mission, Yuvajana Sakhyam, Sevika Sangham and Parish Choir set functioning with its undivided help in the overall growth of Parish. In January 2008, Sunday school too made its vibrant step with a dedicated group of teachers. Presently, Sunday school holds classes on every Friday from 2.30 P M to 4.30 P M at St. Thomas Centre in Salmiya. St. Thomas Church’s substantial role in the activities of the Episcopal churches in Kuwait too is worth a mention.
